What's In Your Lotion?

The Truth About Our Lotions!

Have you noticed that your lotion never moisturizes your skin the way you'd like? Have you noticed that your lotion never really seems to get the job done? I mean seriously, lotion has only one job to do and it doesn't!

Frustrating right!?

So here's the thing, not only are the ingredients in our lotions potentially harmful but they also contain up to 80% water. This makes them ineffective in truly nourishing and moisturizing our skin; especially if healing and relieving dry skin, eczema, psoriasis and other skin issues is the goal!

**Fun Fact: The more water content a product contains, the more likely it is for bacteria to form. Which means the need for higher preservatives and fake fragrance content to increase its shelf life. And because lotion is primarily water, it contains the most added ingredients.**

Thankfully we have alternatives - natural products that are formulated to make our skin glow on the outside while keeping us healthy on the inside. Among body-friendly lotion alternatives, very few things are as effective as natural butters.

What Are Body Butters?

Body butters are one of the absolute best ways to nourish the skin. "Body butters" are nutrient dense creams that hydrate our skin. Skin-safe body butters are made from a variety of natural sources found around the world, like fruit, beans, nuts, seeds and leaves.

Inspire Organics Body Butter

Body butters melt from the heat of the skin and are quickly absorbed; creating an incredibly moisturizing additive for our skin that contains plenty of other body benefits like antioxidants, anti-inflammatories, nutrients, and even SPF protection.

How Do Body Butters Benefit The Skin?

  • Moisture: Daily living takes a beating on the moisture content of your skin, so slathering on body butter every day will keep you moisturized. Unlike commercial lotions that contain paraben (a preservative linked to types of female cancer), body butters rely on their natural emollients to keep you soft. The hydrating oils within organic plant butters keeps our skin moisturized far longer than any regular lotion.
  • Protection: Because they help your skin lock in moisture, body butters easily form a protective layer around your skin that keeps you safe from harmful contaminants and environmental damages. Once you give your skin a coating of butter, you'll be safe from the harm of dry shower/bath water, dry air, cold, and wind on your skin.
  • Reduce Wrinkles: If you allow your skin to dry out it's going to start looking old and faded. Protect your skin against the marks of time by keeping it moisturized with body butters. Organic body butters show to be effective in treating fine lines, stretch marks and wrinkles, and the antioxidant properties in many butters help keep chronic inflammation down that can lead to flair ups.
  • Healthier Skin: Do you suffer from skin allergies? Constant insect bites? Itchy skin rashes, sunburn or even eczema? a regular coating of body butter can actually ease these problems away by properly nourishing affected areas.
  • Skin Nourishing Vitamins: Body butters are filled with healthy fats that help your body inside and out. Most contain omega 3's, a highly moisturizing fat that works to calm down inflammation before it becomes a problem. In fact, the average American is deficient in omega 3 fats. A healthy anti-inflammatory fat. Because body butters contain beneficial antioxidant like Vitamin C, E an A, your skin will be equipped to handle any challenge.
  • Soft Skin: You'll notice the difference in your skin immediately once you start using body butters. The rich creamy moisture the add eliminates any sign of dry, chapped skin and leaves you felling smooth and renewed.

Types of Body Butter...

The variety of body butters you can use is only as limited as your creativity. The cool part about plant butters is that they all contain different properties and benefits for the skin.

  • Almond Butter: Made from sweet almond oil, almond butter is a thick, rich butter that is especially effective for hydrating dry skin and flaky scalp.
  • Apricot Kernel Butter: A light, nutty form of butter, apricot butter is a good all-around moisturizer.
  • Avocado Butter: Made from the oil in the seed and flesh of avocado fruits, this exotic butter has a mild scent and is perfect for adding moisture back into your hair and as a lip balm. Some people use avocado butter as an organic make-up remover.
  • Cocoa Butter: As one of the most stable fats on the planet, cocoa butter is full of natural antioxidants and last for years without going bad. Users love the silky smooth texture and light fragrance, which is why it's commonly used for commercial soaps and lotion. In fact, cocoa butter has been used  for centuries by pregnant women to help minimize the appearance of stretch marks. Cocoa butter contains plenty of Vitamin E, helping to keep skin soft, smooth and wrinkle free.
  • Jojoba Butter: Jojoba oil is structurally and chemically similar to our body's natural sebum. This intensive moisturizer boost is perfect for treating skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis. Best of all, it can be used effectively on all skin types, especially oily.
  • Mango Butter: Coming from the kernels of the mango tree, the texture of mango butter is similar to cocoa. The higher levels of fatty acids make it an even better moisturizer. Your skin will be softened, soothed, and moisturized after just a few applications.
  • Shea Butter: As one of the most common body butters used today, shea butter lives up to the hype. The unique composition of fatty acids makes it a smart choice for a wide range of uses, including skin care, massage creams, medicinal salves and ointments, dry rash care and protection for the sun (SPF protection). Just about every skin type can benefit from a daily infusion of shea butter.

Respectively, in many ways using body butters couldn't be more intuitive. Here are some tips and trick that are good to know...

  • Be sure your body butter is organic. Look for the words "unrefined", "cold-pressed", "extra-virgin", indicating the oils were naturally processed without high heat extractions. High heat kills the natural properties and nutrients of the butter.

  • Remember, body butters are concentrated, so a little goes a long way! Before applying to your skin, warm the butter between your hands before carefully massaging into skin.

  • Look for butter that stored in dark, air-tight, moisture free containers. Most body butters can last a year or more because they contain no synthetic chemical as preservatives. Preservatives are not needed, because body butters aren't made with water.
